We need Volunteers (No experience necessary - all Sr. High's and Adults welcome).
Hi Tary, Thank you so much for organizing a team to join us in our flood recovery efforts. We have cleaned out 12 homes, mostly for single women, and that means tearing out sheet rock and insulation 4 ft up from floors throughout these homes. That also meant tearing out kitchen and bath cabinets that were destroyed by 2 feet of water in these homes. Now we would like to give these people a step of reconstruction and hope. I have purchased 200 sheets of sheet rock and 60 bats of insulation. We want to install that in each of these homes and free up their FEMA money for cabinets, carpet, appliances etc. Our wall work will prewire their homes for all the rest and get them back to efficient A/C usage. I think it will be a big emotional boost for them too. Just telling them we were going to do it has caused some of them to cry. So - this Sat I will start on 3-4 homes and learn a lot. If your folks join us next weekend that will be great. Give me a chance to find a motel out in that area of Houston, (one that wasn't damaged itself) If your team members come in Friday evening, they can just meet us on the work site or I'll have a person come to your motel and lead you in to the neighborhood where we are working. Your team could probably do one house. I am hiring a pro to do the tape and floating and the texturing. So I think the insulation and sheet rock should be easy. Ha ha. No kidding it should be fairly simple if your folks are the least bit handy and some of them can lift a piece of 4x8x1/2 sheet rock. Our folks can get you started and we will have a couple of special tools that help. Your folks need to bring hammers, utility knives, a couple of staple guns to tack up the insulation, nail aprons/tool belts, gloves, cool clothes, and it is always handy to have a first aid kit plus some mosquito spray. If you have folks who are experienced with taping and floating they are welcome to put in the first application. Hope this appeals to you. Is it enough work? This is my home email address so you can reply either way. Harry
Other Churches can meet at their Church and procede to Grace so that you get there by 11:00 A.M. July 6th for assignments.
Hopefully, all materials will be in place for your arrival.
