Our Mission is to assist The flood Victims in the Robstown area. We will leave Shepherd of the Hills Parking Lot at 12:00 Noon September 18, 2003, so we can caravan to Robstown. If you cannot come Thursday, you can come Friday and/or Saturday returning Sunday.
I understand their are some homes with foundation issues, pier and beam, and we will be cutting up and replacing rotten flooring and sub-flooring. There will be dry wall work, repairing cracks, some light plumbing, and not much electrical. there is also a sewer line collapse that needs dug out. Is this still the list of work?
Jeannie Peercy says: We have 10 funded repair projects to start on and are waiting for how many folks are coming and the ages before we can really determine the best project for you folks. We will make every attempt to put you on a project(s) that can be completed or worked to a good stopping point.
So, we probably will Install Sheetrock and Insulation in some homes. If necessary, we will clean up homes, and that could mean tearing out sheet rock and insulation 4 - 8 ft up from floors throughout these homes. That also means tearing out kitchen and bath cabinets that were destroyed by water in these homes (So bring your plumbing tools too!). You folks need to bring hammers, utility knives, a couple of staple guns to tack up the insulation, nail aprons/tool belts, gloves, cool clothes, and it is always handy to have a first aid kit. Hope this appeals to you.
Jeannie Peercy says:I know this will depend on the number. If not, are there cheap restaurants nearby for breakfast, lunch, and dinner? As of right now we have no arrangements for meals, although we might be able to pull something together. The number of volunteers and when they will be here would help in trying to get a church group to have a meal (something like a pot luck). There are several restaurants in the area and the kitchen and fellowship area in the Methodist Church.
Jeannie Peercy Says: Option # 1:
We have cots available at the fellowship hall that has a kitchen and showers. We could possible have some single beds at the hall if Dale and I get a chance to pick them up and get them delivered and set up-but I wouldn't bank on that. NOTE: Bring a blanket or sleeping bag to put on the cots!
Option # 2
Stay at the Econo Lodge at 2225 Hwy 77 (phone 361-387-9444). As you come off of the highway on bus 77 the motel is on the right after you exit. There also may be some cots available at a church fellowship hall. There is a WalMart store after you exit 37 to 77 S toward Robstown where we will be meeting.
PLEASE CALL THE ECONO LODGE AT 361-387-9444 and CALL ME OR E-MAIL SO WE CAN KNOW HOW MANY ARE AT THE MOTEL. OTHERWISE you will be staying at Fellowship Hall. We will probably return home Sunday afternoon
