We have approx. 10 volunteers from Mission Presbytery Chuches so far. Calling all sources for an additional 30 more volunteers ( 8-10 should have roofing experience). Westminster Pres. has space to house 40 volunteers(on floors, cots, sleeping bags etc). There are restroom and cooking facilities (some of the members of the church have even offered to provide meals). There are no shower facilities however. David and Sabelyn Pussman are researching motel availability and other possibilities for showering etc. Even though the roof eves are 9 to 12 feet off the ground, no one should attempt this type of work if afraid of heights. Work areas will be accessed by ladders.
The first project is to replace a leaking roof on the Westminister Church. We may also replace sheetrock where needed. We may also do some roof repairs and sheetrock repairs to the Pussman's home.
For those coming in Thursday, Friday, or Saturday, please meet at the Westminister Presbyterian Church at 301 Center Circle, Sulphur, La. We will meet there each morning at 8:00 A.M. to start work. Those of us on the advance party will survey the work to be done and make sure all materials are in place for the arrival of the main groups.
We will finish up on Sunday the 19th and return to our home Churches.
Please Leave your Home Church in time to arrive at the Church by 8:00 AM February 16, 2006 and each morning thereafter - we will have long days ahead of us!
We will need about 40-50 volunteers to accomplish this task. We will also need:
1. 10 coil type roofing nail guns (includes 2 spares) with 24,000 nails. Tary Snyder will provide 3 roofing guns, and a framing gun
2. 4 - 2-4 gallon Air compressors with 200' of air hose each (w/quik couplers) each. Some T's may help also.
3. 4 - 100' 14 gage extension cords (in Case) Assume 3- 5 generators will be available by the Church congregation.
4. 3-9' scaffold towers with ladders, decking, leveling jacks, and hand rails.
5. 6-12' Ladders
6. If we strip the roof, we will also need 5-10 roof shovels.
6. Misc hand tools (several crew members should have metal working tools for installing metal valley and roof edging.
Bring what you can, such as gloves, dust mask, igloo cooler, wheelbarrow, dolly, cleaning sprays to disinfect, buckets, mops, brooms, hammers, screwdrivers, utility knives for cutting out sheetrock. Put your name on your things. We have water, ice, and a first aid kit. Also, if you have them, please bring ladders, air compressors and hoses, generators, pitch forks, flat shovels, plumbing supplies, power saws, hammers, nail pullers, chain saws, brush clearing equipment, etc.
Many can stay at the church. We will be determing what motels might be available and notify all as soon as possible. We will try to secure at leasst 2-3 rooms so we can shower. No showers at the church.
