WHY ARE WE GOING??

Numerous rain storms blanketed the Lower Texas Valley and left widespread damage in September 2003 Then on July 25, 2005 Hurricane Emily Struck and now they really need your help.

Our Mission is to replace the Group from the Congregational Church (UCC) of New Canaan, Ct in a mission trip with their 80 plus youth and about 20 adults who decided to go to Mobile, Alabama.

WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO??

We will be doing a tear off of a wood shingle roof and replacing with shingles plus repairing the flooring of one home. We will also repair/build a new roof over a mobile home and also repair interior rain damage on both homes. We may also have to replace sheetrock in those 2 homes in the Green Valley area of San Benito.If we get enough help , we may be able to work on some other homes in the area

We will leave Shepherd of the Hills Parking Lot at 12:00 Noon Wednesday April 13, 2005, so we can caravan to the area and hook up with any other groups that can come. If you cannot come Wednesday, you can come Thursday, Friday and/or Saturday returning Sunday.

Where will we be working?

Green Valley Area east of San Benito.

For those coming in Thursday, Friday, or Saturday, we will meet each morning at 8:00 A.M. April 14,15, and 16, 2005 at Getsemani Presbyterian Church, 140 Diaz Street, San Benito. Those of us on the advance party will survey the work to be done and make sure all materials are in place for the arrival of the main groups.

We will finish up on Sunday and return to our home Churches.

Please Leave your Home Church in time to arrive at the Getsemani Presbyterian Church by 8:00 AM April 14,15 and 16. We will have long days ahead of us!

Bring what you can, such as gloves, dust mask, igloo cooler, wheelbarrow, dolly, cleaning sprays to disinfect, buckets, mops, brooms, hammers, screwdrivers, utility knives for cutting out sheetrock. Put your name on your things. We will have water, ice, and a first aid kit. Also, if you have them, please bring ladders, air compressors and hoses, generators, pitch forks, flat shovels, plumbing supplies, power saws, hammers, nail pullers,chain saws, brush clearing equipment, etc.

MEALS

Bring your own snacks. Meals local purchase.

Rev Thomas C Johnson sent the following 1/20/05. I think we will have a crew to feed the workers and a Friday and Saturday work crew. The Getsemani youth will give a "fajita lunch" to the crew on Sunday the 13th of Feb. Hope to see you Feb. 9.

I called around and got a price from Country Inn and Suites in Harlingen. The Country Inn is very nice. It is owned by Bill Peacock, also owner of Peacock Construction. I spoke to Linda Davis, Director of Sales. She gave me a price of $50.00 plus $3.50 city tax. The total cost is $53.50 for a room that normally goes for $99.00 plus tax. The room includes 2 queen size beds and a living room with a couch that makes into a bed. They also include breakfast. We need to make these reservations as soon as possible. Linda's phone number at the Country Inn is: (956) 428-0043 ext.#140, her e-mail is cx_harl@countryinns.com. I told her there would probably be 10 to 12 people. The Country Inn also has a pool and is close to Mexico and the beach. The distance to the job site is about the same for both. Please let me know what you think. ----Pearl"
